20th International Internal Medicine Conference kicks off in Amman

Amman, April 29 (Petra) -- The 20th International Conference of the Jordan Society of Internal Medicine opened in Amman on Wednesday, bringing together local and international experts to discuss the latest advancements in diagnostic and therapeutic medical practices.

The three-day event, held under the patronage of University of Jordan President Nathir Obeidat, is organized in collaboration with the Royal College of Physicians/Edinburgh. This partnership, which dates back to 2006, serves as a cornerstone for continuing medical education in the Kingdom, providing Jordanian physicians with a platform to exchange expertise with global peers from both the public and private sectors.

Conference Chairman Nayef Al-Abdallat stated that the gathering features 60 lectures covering a wide spectrum of sub-specialties, including gastroenterology, cardiology, nephrology, neurology, and endocrinology. Other focus areas include respiratory medicine, rheumatology, hematology, oncology, and infectious diseases.

Al-Abdallat emphasized that Jordan has established itself as a regional hub for healthcare and medical tourism, attributed to the sustained efforts of medical pioneers and the strategic vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II. He noted that the Kingdom's high-quality services and the expertise of its medical cadres have made it a preferred destination for patients across the Arab world and beyond.

"Our objective is to consolidate the concept of continuing medical education and keep Jordanian doctors informed of the latest scientific breakthroughs," Al-Abdallat said. He added that the Jordanian healthcare sector is highly competitive within the Middle East and North Africa, meeting international accreditation standards.

Mohammed Ghneimat, President of the Arab Society of Internal Medicine Specialists, highlighted the importance of the long-standing scientific partnership with the Royal College of Physicians, noting its role in enhancing medical practice and fostering bilateral cooperation between Jordan and the United Kingdom.

Jordan Medical Association President Issa Al-Khashashneh underscored the integral role of internal medicine as the backbone of the healthcare system. He affirmed the association’s commitment to supporting scientific activities and training programs that ensure Jordanian medical professionals remain at the forefront of global developments.

Al-Khashashneh noted that the integration between academic institutions and professional bodies is essential for producing qualified medical cadres capable of serving the health sector with distinction. He described the conference as a testament to the prestigious scientific standing of Jordanian specialists and their dedication to the medical profession.
